Friends,
When in Philly, please visit Northwest Philadelphia, specifically the neighborhoods of Chestnut Hill and West Mount Airy. Especially if you, like me, enjoy exploring the lesser known areas of large cities. Chestnut Hill has a high concentration of interesting shops and restaurants since it’s an affluent section of Philadelphia and West Mount Airy, also known as the Ph.D. ghetto, has several eclectic, interesting shops and restaurants.
The list below includes my favorite eateries in the Northwest.
Restaurant Recommendations:
Avenida: serves authentic Guatemalan cuisine; the desserts are fabulous (especially their tres leches cake).
McNally’s Tavern: serves the Scmitter, a very unique steak sandwich.
Goat Hollow: offers a variety of draft beers and a solid menu (pub food).
Earth Bread & Brewery: is family friendly and offers great food (specializes in flat bread pizzas) at a great price.
Heirloom: specializes in locally sourced American style cuisine.
Iron Hill Brewery: offers an extensive menu (something for everyone) and handcrafted beers.
Stella Sera: is a fantastic Italian restaurant; the pasta is homemade.
Dalessandro’s Steaks: makes the best cheese steaks in Philadelphia.
